Director of Development

The Pasadena Senior Center seeks an experienced and skilled fundraising professional with the imagination, technical expertise and mission-orientation to direct and supervise all development efforts for the organization, including major and planned giving, corporation and foundation relations, annual giving, stewardship, and marketing and communications.   

About the Senior Center

Pasadena Senior Center was founded in 1959 as an independent non-profit agency that offers recreational, educational, wellness and social services to people ages 50 and over in a friendly environment. Services are also provided for frail, low-income and homebound seniors. Our programs are designed to support older adults in remaining as independent as possible, staying connected to the community and celebrating meaningful living at all stages of life.

Responsibilities for the Director of Development

This is a full-time position reporting directly to the Executive Director

  • Establishes and achieves annual and long-term fund development goals and departmental budget for the Senior Center.
  • Works as a “hand-on” fundraiser to secure major and planned gifts in support of the facilities and programs. This includes, but is not limited to: personal solicitations, targeted appeals, grant writing, special events and planned giving.
  • Participates in all functional areas of the development department.
  • Cultivates preserves and strengthens donor relationships and loyalty among existing donors, board members and volunteers.
  • Conducts targeted and personalized mailings and communications on fundraising initiatives.
  • Directs legacy giving activities.
  • Develops web content for online giving opportunities and special events; develops networking strategies for web-based communications to synch with social media to promote and engage targeted communities.
  • Is responsible for the administration activities of the department including database management, reporting, development of policies and procedures related to the Development Department, archival activity, and calendaring.
  • Manage the Associate Director of Development, Manager of Foundation Relations, the Associate Director of Marketing and Communications and participate actively with the Management Team.

  • Possession of a bachelor’s degree in business, marketing communications or related field.
  • Demonstrated track record as a successful fund development professional.
  • A minimum of five years of progressively responsible development experience, which includes supervision of grant writing and knowledge of capital campaigns.
  • Demonstrated proficiency with our donor database program, Donor Perfect.
  • Familiar with social media and social networking, including Facebook, Twitter and blogs.
  • Expected to write articles for our monthly newsletter and produce our Annual Report.
  • Oversee monthly Community Luncheons with assistance from Board members.
