Development Manager


Distinguished as one of the top after-school arts and culture programs in the nation by The President’s Committee on the Arts & the Humanities, Girls Write Now (GWN) is New York’s first and only non-profit with writing and mentoring model for girls.

Girls Write Now seeks a full time Development Manager to oversee development operations for a growing organization with a 2015 budget approaching $1.5 million.  Girls Write Now has just completed its first phase of strategic planning (3 Year Strategic Plan) and will look to the Manager to help lead development planning & execution using the guidance of a refreshed mission, strategic priorities and organizational commitments.  The Manager will have particular focus building, supporting and executing on a fundraising plan to meet the demands of the new strategic plan and have ownership driving the organizational commitment related to the development of a major gifts program.


In this new role, the Manager will report to the Executive Director while working closely with Programs, Operations and Communications staff.  The Manager will oversee a part-time grant writer as well as an external events consultant. 


The ideal candidate will be an energetic, creative, flexible and disciplined major gifts fundraiser, savvy with Boards and high-level donors, and a proven record of meeting ambitious fundraising goals.

Bachelors degree, Masters degree a plus

A minimum of three years of professional fundraising experience

Demonstrated success in meeting annual fundraising goals, including gifts from major donors, foundations, and corporations

A track record of success in setting vision and strategy for groups; leading and motivating staff, board, volunteers, and donors to drive results; evaluating progress against goals

Experience with nonprofit budgeting and fundraising planning

Demonstrated experience prioritizing multiple assignments, meeting tight deadlines, and willing to be flexible with a lean staff in a fast-paced environment

Technically savvy, with strong computer skills: proficiency with Excel, WordPress, Google Analytics, email marketing applications, electronic donor tracking systems (DonorPro, SalesForce, Firstgiving), and social media

Thoroughly committed to GWN’s mission of mentoring the next generation of women writers, with knowledge and eagerness to learn in the realms of literature, media, education, women’s issues, and community organizing

Experience directing marketing campaigns and promotional activities a plus
