Director, Center for Equitable Education Spending


Pivot Learning Partners is a nonprofit organization of K-12 education experts working shoulder-to-shoulder with schools, districts and charters to address the biggest challenges they face. We partner with education leaders at all levels and provide them with the knowledge, skills and support proven to strengthen educational systems and transform teaching and learning.

 We are currently seeking a Director, Center for Equitable Education Spending. This senior level program director position would lead Pivot Learning Partners’ efforts to develop and scale Pivot’s approach to education finance reform and its alignment with instructional improvement and educational equity. The Director would lead and manage a team of individuals who would together develop, document, test, disseminate and market a variety of tools, materials and programs related to equitable education spending at the state, district and school levels. The Director would be responsible for successfully executing complex projects that include for-profit, foundation, nonprofit and school district stakeholders and would also work closely with state and district leaders, educators, funders, policymakers and other stakeholders with an interest in equitable education reform.

 The ideal candidate would be strongly committed to Pivot’s mission, and be able to demonstrate exceptional project management, leadership, communication and analytic skills. Experience in product or curriculum design, and/or strong knowledge of district and school budgeting or education finance reform a plus.

 This is a full-time position that would be based out of our San Francisco office and would report to the Chief Education Programs Officer.


Position Responsibilities

 Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Leading the design and implementation of complex, grant-funded projects, including coordinating the service delivery work of team members across multiple school districts and managing integration of several technology tools.
- Creating the vision for and managing the execution of Pivot’s continued equitable education finance work in California and nationally.
- Leading a team of content developers to create the cutting-edge tools, materials and programs that will keep Pivot on the forefront of equitable education spending service providers.
- Training and supervising Center staff.
- Building capacity and knowledge of Pivot staff to successfully market and deliver education finance tools, materials and programs to our school and district partners.
- Collaborating and consulting with others across the organization to maintain the Pivot quality and brand, alignment between program areas and to document programs, to develop, prototype and pilot tools and materials, and to successfully communicate lessons learned to others in organization.
- Coordinating closely with other projects taking place in overlapping districts or networks.
- Collaborating with the Director of External Relations to develop and manage critical relationships with stakeholders, partner organizations and funders with a vested interest in education finance reform work.

 In addition, this person will be expected to contribute to:
- National projects, by serving as an expert resource and providing content-specific project support as needed.
- Developing learning and training opportunities for Pivot staff members on relevant project and policy topics.
- Monitoring statewide and national education finance policy developments and reform initiatives.
- Writing white papers, articles and blogs related to finance policy to raise Pivot’s profile related to finance policy and reform.
- Participating in statewide conferences and events to represent Pivot’s interests and work related to finance and policy.

 Qualifications

 Required Experience, Knowledge and Skills:

- Exceptional project management skills, including the ability to set priorities, track multiple timelines and budgets, manage complex projects, work in a fast-paced environment and take on complex problems with a collaborative, creative and strategic approach.
- Proven leadership and managerial skills, including coaching and inspiring a team of strong performers.
- Experience in translating ideas into action, building systems, creating new programs and taking something to scale.
- Experience in or knowledge of California and national education policy, public education reform and public sector change.
- Knowledge of district finance and instructional improvement strategies.
- Excellent written, verbal and presentation skills, and the ability to translate complex ideas into clear language for a wide range of audiences.
- Strong interpersonal skills, including the ability to work with diverse groups and individuals.
- Strong analytic skills.
- A passion for both learning and teaching.
- Demonstrated ability to thrive in an entrepreneurial environment.
- A commitment for the work of Pivot Learning Partners and a desire to continually broaden and deepen the organization's impact.
- High computer literacy.

 

Desirable Experience, Knowledge and Skills:
- Knowledge of or experience in district or school budgeting.
- Experience working at a management level with district and school budgets.
- Experience in or knowledge of K-12 public education finance reform and public sector change.
- Experience in consulting or related field.
- Experience with designing or implementing technology solutions and/or with online collaboration.
- Experience designing learning experiences and delivering trainings for adult learners.
- Skills in building strategic relationships and working with funders.
- Public policy interest or experience.
- Research experience and skills.
- Master’s degree or higher.
- Bi-Lingual a plus.

 Compensation and Benefits

 Salary is commensurate with skills and experience. Full benefits include health, dental, vision, 403B contribution, and paid time off for holidays, sick leave and vacations.
