Associate Dean of Admission


Claremont McKenna College is seeking an Associate Dean of Admission to work with the Director of Admission and Dean of Admission and Financial Aid and other key constituents within the College in developing strategic data driven processes and policies to meet College enrollment initiatives. This position will be responsible for management of admission operations and for continuing to expand the potential of our information management system, Slate. The Associate Dean reports to the Director of Admission and will manage the office in the Director’s absence. The responsibilities include supervising the administrative support staff and providing data analysis to support our decision-making process. The Associate Dean will work closely with the Director of Admission in managing day-to-day operations, overseeing the development of professional staff, and developing materials and marketing strategies in collaboration with the Dean of Admission and Financial Aid and the Office of Public Affairs and Communications.


The position requires a minimum of 5-7 years working in an Admission office at an institution of higher education with consistent promotion and increased responsibility. Must demonstrate the ability to work independently and as a member of a team, have strong presentation skills, strong organization skills and attention to detail, and experience collaborating across departments to help us achieve our goals. The Associate Dean will exercise a great deal of independent judgment in discharging the responsibilities of the position.

• Bachelor’s degree required; Master’s degree preferred.

• Evidence of at least two years of experience in direct supervision of professional staff. Experience supervising temporary and/or student staff will be considered.

• Demonstrated experience and solid understanding of technology, with extensive use of software applications including database management and Customer Relationship Management (CRM).

• Experience with a wide variety of internal and external constituents (co-workers, campus representatives, high school and transfer students, parents, school officials, etc.), including students from low-income, first-generation, and racially/ethnically diverse backgrounds.

• Excellent writing, communication, public speaking, and interpersonal skills.

• A high level of energy and self-motivation and a demonstrated ability to interact with a variety of cultures.

• Self-starter who is looking to join a dynamic, fun team; a good sense of humor is required.

• A valid driver’s license and the ability to travel up to three weeks at a time and work on evenings and weekends.



This is a full-time, 12-month, benefits-eligible position reporting to the Director of Admission.
