Director Partnership Liaison | Atlanta, GA


  • A Bachelor's degree, preferably in a health-related field; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

  • At least 5 years’ experience in a health-cause, non-profit, university, government, or related business environment required; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

  • At least 3 years’ experience with partnership relations, managing a budget, and coordinating human resources.

  • Understanding of policy and fiscal management issues; and ability to prepare projections and budgets.

  • Must possess excellent organizational skills with the ability to set and meet goals and deadlines.

  • Must possess strong and articulate written and verbal communication skills with an ability to communicate to both external and internal stakeholders.

  • Must be creative and resourceful when problem-solving; use innovative thought and reason, and an ability to make decisions independently and confidently.

  • Instinctive, detail-oriented, proactive, accurate, efficient, thorough and conscientious; exhibits composure in high pressure situations.

  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to interact positively and work collaboratively and effectively in a diverse environment with individuals at all levels inside and outside the organization, including staff, donors, and volunteer leadership.

  • Must have ability to recognize and handle confidential documents and information professionally, diplomatically, and in keeping with business unit practices along with the ability to make independent decisions on behalf of the department if necessary.

  • Highly organized, easily manages multiple timelines, and completes tasks quickly within the constraints of timelines and budgets.

  • Strong project management experience \

  • Background and experience/knowledge working with rheumatology and/or other health-related fields a plus.

  • Must be proficient on Microsoft Office Suite.

  • Some travel may be required.


This position is accountable for the oversight and coordination of Foundation partnerships/relationships such as PARTNERS, and with other third-party entities (Such as The Childhood Arthritis and Rheumatology Research Alliance (CARRA), Pediatric Rheumatology Care and Outcomes Improvement Network (PR-COIN), National Institute of Arthritis and Musculoskeletal and Skin Diseases (NIAMS), and others as assigned).

The position will serve as the point person for the collaboration between the AF and other third party entities with data collection efforts, patient surveys and trials, and research with an overarching goal to achieve quality-of-life improvement for people dealing with, and challenged by, the effects of Arthritis in their daily lives.  In addition, this position will help build a process for evaluating and certifying third-party programs and environments.   

Within the Foundation

Develops and maintains relationships within the Science Department to advise on third-party partnership initiatives planned and underway, and progress reports; maintains close contact with several departments, External Relations staff in Consumer Health, Corporate Development, and Major Gifts to provide updated accurate information regarding Partnership initiatives; maintains open communications with other mission related departments regarding progress on all mission activities.  Contact with Region staff to ensure appropriate representation on research related task forces.

Outside the Foundation

Initiates and maintains relationships and communications with third party Partnerships and professional organizations such the American College of Rheumatology (ACR), Foundation for the National Institutes of Health (FNIH), and the Health Research Alliance, Childhood Arthritis and Rheumatology Research Alliance (CARRA), Pediatric Rheumatology Care and Outcomes Improvement Network (PR-COIN), National Institutes for Arthritis, Musculoskeletal and Skin Diseases (NIAMS), and others.


Responsibility #1:

Serves as a key liaison to Arthritis Foundation (AF) Partnerships.  Directs and serves as point person for communications with those key partners. Identifies challenges and suggest solutions for opportunities.

Responsibility #2:

Overseeing the implementation of short- and long-term strategic plans for partnership development, undertaking new initiatives and projects to recruit new partners and develop relationships.

Responsibility #3:

Develops and implements a communications strategy that galvanizes stakeholders, provides essential information to them, and builds the operational research partnership. 

Responsibility 4:

Develops a process for evaluating and certifying third-party programs and environments.  

Responsibility #5:

May represent the organization at meetings, conferences and other events. May develop and present speeches or presentations to generate or enhance awareness of the Partnership programs.

Responsibility #6:

Monitors progress toward achieving established objectives and deadlines.Manages projects related to the Partnerships. Coordinates the strategic planning process and monitors progress toward achieving project goals.

Responsibility #7:

Develop and strengthen partner relationships, including active participation in working groups of ongoing third party partnerships of the AF.

Responsibility #8:

Coordinates logistical arrangements for related conferences, conventions or meetings with the Conference and Meeting Manager. May assist in identifying funding resources and in developing funding strategies and initiatives.

Responsibility #9:

Develops and generates various operational and statistical reports. May represent and promote the AF at speaking engagements, and with Partnership meetings. May write grants, reports, briefings, newsletters, promotional or other written material related to the Partnerships. Provides reports to Senior Management, Science, Consumer Health, Development, and others within the AF about Partnership initiatives and relationship activities as requested.

Responsibility #10:

Manages project contracts with AF partners, processing invoices, reporting on financial status, and developing closeout documentation.


Responsible for management and coordination of third party relationships for the Arthritis Foundation.
