Foundations Officer


The American Red Cross depends heavily on the support of our generous donor population. We participate in many donor-focused fundraising activities including identifying, cultivating, soliciting and stewarding of top corporate and foundation partners, as well as with individual donors across the country. The funds we receive provide unrestricted support to our Chapters, helping us fulfill our mission to provide relief to victims of disaster and help people prevent, prepare and respond to emergencies in our communities.

We are currently seeking a Foundations Officer for our Los Angeles, CA region.

The Foundations Officer is responsible for his/her own funder portfolio, managing all stages of development, including assessment, cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship with the expectation of raising or exceeding a personal fundraising goal of $300k this fiscal year. The Foundations Officer simultaneously provides support to the Director and other fundraisers throughout the region accordingly:

  • helps to develop a comprehensive annual foundation fundraising plan for the region;
  • maintains a regional grants management calendar;
  • runs a series of monthly funder reports;
  • coordinates stewardship events;
  • co-facilitates monthly team meetings;
  • performs prospect research;
  • writes and edits proposals, reports, and stewardship updates;
  • coordinates all supporting documentation required for submission to foundation prospects and partners; and
  • manages the grant acknowledgement process.


The Foundations Officer works closely with the Director of Government Partnerships and Foundation Relations, the Government Partnership Manager and Grant Associate, as well as other fundraising leads throughout the Los Angeles Region.

The Foundations Officer recruits and trains volunteers as needed to support ongoing and long-term fundraising activities and objectives as well as assists in special projects as needed to support the American Red Cross Los Angeles Region development department. The Foundations Officer also needs to be available to attend meetings, trainings, conferences, and special events as necessary.

Education: Bachelor's degree.

Experience: A minimum of five years of experience in development.

  • Highly energetic, self-starting, and creative individual who can express ideas, recognize opportunities, and communicate goals and objectives clearly.
  • Outstanding organizational skills.
  • Ability to work with a diverse constituency of donors representing the foundation community throughout Los Angeles County.
  • Ability to work independently and productively in partnership with staff and volunteers.
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to prioritize assignments in a fast-paced environment. 
  • Strong oral and written communication skills are of the highest priority.
  • Mastery of basic computer software, applications and functionality including Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, email and Internet.
  • Working knowledge of database systems, Salesforce preferred.
