The American Diabetes Association is proud to announce the availability of an exciting Special Events Summer Internship in our Chicago Office. We are seeking a highly motivated, self-starting student who is passionate about communications, event planning and fundraising. This position will work with the Chicago’s Special Event staff on our two signature fundraising events, Tour de Cure and Step Out: Walk to Stop Diabetes. If you have great communications skills, an outgoing personality and aren’t afraid to make follow up phone calls to our newly registered participants, this job is for you! In exchange for your skills, you will gain valuable communication, fundraising, event planning, and community engagement experience. This position will require you to work with various social media tools, assist with media placements, work with volunteer committees, communicate with volunteers via email and phone, and of course, be energetic, enthusiastic and knowledgeable about the American Diabetes Association. 
Duties will include:  RECRUITING, FUNDRAISING, LOGISTICAL SUPPORT & EVENT PLANNING  * Help in planning and implementing events in the Chicagoland Area  * Help promote events and ADA messaging through various media vehicles  * Assist with phone calls and mailings to past and current participants  * Assist with day-of-event volunteer recruitment and management  * Assist in planning the 2015 meetings, Kickoff Events and Champions Reception  * Attend committee meetings  * Help with promotion of events and ADA mission at corporate events, health fairs and community organizations  * New Participant Welcome Calls  * Support of Volunteer Training  * Day of Event logistics support  * Other duties as assigned 


* Interpersonal communications skills – including in-person and phone-based community outreach  * Ability to see the "big picture" and assist with all aspects of event planning and fundraising  * Ability to prioritize and handle a variety of assignments simultaneously  * Ability to learn about The ADA mission and programs and convey those to our audience  * Proficiency in MS Office, Internet, and email  * Teamwork and tenacity  * Ability to lift 35 lbs.  * Time commitment of 20 hours per week is requested  * This internship is not paid
